Kitchen Manager / Executive Chef

The PA Market | Pittsburgh, PA

The PA Market is seeking a Kitchen Manager / Executive Chef to lead our back-of-house operations and help build one of Pittsburgh's most unique hospitality destinations.
This is not a traditional Executive Chef role.
While culinary creativity and a passion for food are important, our greatest need is a strong leader who can build and develop teams, create systems and accountability, maintain high standards, and help operate a quality-driven kitchen that performs consistently and profitably.
We are a scratch kitchen focused on quality ingredients, thoughtful execution, and exceptional guest experiences. We believe great food starts with great leadership.

The PA Market is a hospitality-driven destination featuring multiple food concepts, bars, private events, catering, and unique guest experiences under one roof. Our focus is creating memorable experiences through outstanding food, hospitality, and atmosphere.

What You'll Be Responsible For
Leadership & Culture
* Recruit, train, coach, and develop kitchen team members
* Create a positive, professional, and accountable work environment
* Establish clear expectations and maintain high standards
* Lead by example and earn the respect of the team
* Foster a culture of teamwork, learning, pride, and continuous improvement

Operations & Administration
* Manage daily kitchen operations
* Create and maintain systems, procedures, and organizational standards
* Oversee scheduling and labor management
* Manage inventory and purchasing
* Ensure compliance with food safety and sanitation standards
* Maintain recipe consistency and execution standards
* Work closely with the General Manager and leadership team to achieve operational goals

Financial Performance
* Control food and labor costs
* Minimize waste and improve efficiencies
* Monitor purchasing and inventory practices
* Analyze performance and identify opportunities for improvement
* Balance quality, guest experience, and profitability
Culinary Leadership
* Maintain and elevate food quality standards
* Support ongoing menu development and refinement
* Collaborate on seasonal offerings and special events
* Help create unique chef-driven experiences, including chef tables and farm-to-table programming
* Ensure all culinary changes are thoughtful, tested, and aligned with the overall vision of the business

What We're Looking For
Required
* Proven experience leading and managing teams
* Strong organizational and project management skills
* Ability to create structure, accountability, and consistency
* Excellent communication and leadership abilities
* Strong business and operational mindset
* Ability to solve problems and make decisions under pressure
* Commitment to quality and continuous improvement

Preferred
* Culinary management experience
* Experience leading high-volume kitchens
* Scratch kitchen experience
* Knowledge of food costing, labor management, inventory control, and purchasing
* Experience with catering, events, and multiple revenue streams

Candidates with traditional culinary backgrounds are encouraged to apply, but we are equally interested in exceptional leaders from related industries who have demonstrated success managing teams, projects, operations, and performance.
We believe leadership, accountability, and operational excellence are often harder to teach than culinary techniques.
